Approval Of Water Park Hotel Brings Tide Of Interest

McWhinney Enterprises, the developer of Southern California’s first major water park hotel, has received a flood of interest since the Garden Grove City Council gave the go-ahead last month for the development of a 600-room hotel connected to a three-acre water park.

The development, located in the City’s InternationalWEST resort area, 1.5 miles from the California Disney Resort, will offer visitors a 10-plus story, 600-room hotel containing 15,000 square-feet of meeting space, with an attached water park. The project will generate an estimated $5.3 million per year in tax revenue and create up to 600 temporary and permanent jobs.

“Investors know a good thing when they see it. This project has enormous industry appeal because of its scale, uniqueness, and built-in share of the area's phenomenal tourism market,” says Chad McWhinney, CEO and co-founder of McWhinney Enterprises.

Interest has come from an array of business sectors including franchisers and construction companies seeking to partner with McWhinney in the project's commercial and building development.

The City Council, acting as the Agency for Community Development, gave McWhinney the green light in a unanimous vote. The next step for the developer is to select viable and reputable business partners, including a hotel and water park operator, that complement InternationalWEST’s look and feel.

According to Garden Grove City Manager Matt Fertal, “McWhinney is building the next generation of hotel with a water park that will be, in itself, a tourist destination.”
