Disney Study Supports Potential Behind International West

April 5, 2005

Results from a recent study that show the Disneyland Resort to be a driving force for jobs, economic activity, and tourism in the area, supports a promising picture for the City of Garden Grove’s growing resort destination, International WEST.

Key indicators of the report, prepared by CB Richard Ellis (CBRE), CBRE Consulting, and Allan D. Kotin & Associates, include: the Disneyland Resort generates $3.6 billion in third-party annual income to non-Disney businesses throughout Southern California; visitors who stay in the Anaheim Resort Area and other surrounding locations generate $225 million in taxes to other cities and counties; and the economic impact of visitor spending at establishments surrounding the Resort, rather than within the Resort, totals $1.9 billion a year.

“What all of this means to Garden Grove is that International WEST is poised for immediate as well as long-term success because of its close proximity to the Disney powerhouse,” explains Garden Grove City Manager Matt Fertal.

International WEST is Garden Grove’s developing vision of a new, 400-acre resort and entertainment destination located along Harbor Boulevard, just two miles south from the world-famous Disneyland Resort area. The Master Plan includes a dynamic mix of upscale dining, shopping, hotel, and entertainment venues.
