As part of the City’s ongoing efforts to promote Garden Grove’s newest resort area, International WEST, representatives from the City of Garden Grove’s Agency for Community Development will take the International WEST Master Plan to the International Conference of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year the plan, prepared by McWhinney Enterprises, features a revised 40 acre plan known as the “Central Hub” for its proximity between the Disney theme parks and proposed International WEST Theme Parks. The area is located 1.5 miles from Disneyland and the Anaheim Convention Center. Founded in 1957, ICSC is the premier global trade association for the shopping center industry. It has more than 70,000 members in over 92 countries, which include: shopping center owners, developers, managers, marketing specialists, investors, retailers and brokers, as well as academics and public officials. Approximately 50,000 people from over 51 countries will travel to Las Vegas for the ICSC convention. This high-profile convention provides an excellent opportunity for the City to present a visual display with informative literature about the International WEST concept to potential developers. International WEST is Garden Grove’s developing vision of a new, 520-acre resort and entertainment destination located along Harbor Boulevard, just two miles south from the world-famous Disney Resort area. The Master Plan includes a dynamic mix of upscale dining, shopping, hotel, and entertainment venues. Last month the City of Garden Grove approved a major expansion program for the Embassy Suites. “The benefits of this one-of-a-kind resort will not only heighten Garden Grove as a city, but more so, as a community,” comments Mayor Bill Dalton on the landmark expansion of the Embassy Suites, making it the largest Embassy Resort in the United States. Mayor Dalton explains, “While the financial aspects of this project are extremely favorable for the city, more importantly is what the city can in turn do for its residents, visitors, and businesses.” City Manager, Matt Fertal, affirms that the project is expected to create over 200 construction jobs and produce more than 100 permanent jobs for the community, as well as add 238 rooms and 30,000 square-feet of meeting and convention space for local and out-of-town guests. “This influx of people and activity will be a tremendous plus for businesses within the International WEST resort area,” says Fertal. |
